STEPS TO OPENING
YOUR BREADSMITH

Frequently Asked Questions
Please take a moment to review these Frequently Asked Questions about opening a Breadsmith.
GENERAL
How much money can I make?
Profitability will depend on many factors including occupancy costs and financing arrangements, but the most important factor will be the time and effort you are willing to put into your business and your ability to operate the business effectively.
Where can I open my Breadsmith?
Typically we are looking to develop in major US markets with populations in excess of 150,000 people. The minimum parameters that we consider for site selection are:
  • population of 80K+ people within a 3 mile radius of the site
  • average household income $50K+
  • +75% owner occupied housing
Does Breadsmith provide financing?
No, we do not currently offer any financing options directly to franchisees. However, we do offer assistance with a prototype business plan for third party lending once a Franchise Agreement has been signed.
What is your royalty structure?
We utilize a sliding scale royalty structure. It begins at 7% for retail sales and 5% for wholesale sales.  Once your bakery has been in operation for one full year the retail royalty drops to 6%. After a second full year your retail royalty will drop to 5% and stay there for the remainder of your franchise agreement.
QUALIFICATIONS
Is prior baking experience required?
No. As a matter of fact, your lack of baking experience can work to your advantage because you haven't learned any bad habits. As part of our 3 week intensive training program you will be taught the art of baking award winning European style hearth baked breads.
How much money do I need to open a Breadsmith?
While development costs vary from location to location, the average Breadsmith costs between $242,500 and $324,000 to open. We require that you have a minimum net worth of $300,000 of which $150,000 be liquid at the time you sign your Franchise Agreement.
SUPPORT
What type of support do you offer prior to opening my store?
Once you sign a Franchisee Agreement you will be assigned an Operations Manager who will assist you in planning the opening of your store. From site selection to baking training to a Grand Opening marketing plan, we are at your side every step of the way.

Among other things, we will spend three weeks with you in Whitefish Bay teaching you the finer points necessary to running a successful bakery and we'll even build your six-ton, stone hearth imported oven WITH you.
Will you help me open my store?
Yes, we will spend 12 days with you on site to help you prepare the week before your opening and support you the week of your opening. Support will include employee training, marketing support, HR, and most anything else that needs to be done those two weeks.
Once my store is open, what type of ongoing support do you offer?
Beyond the fact that we are available virtually 24 hours per day/ seven days per week when questions arise, we offer, among other things, new recipes and implementation support, purchasing updates, ongoing marketing planning assistance, in-house graphics assistance, and preventative equipment maintenance. You will also receive an annual visit from our Equipment and Technical Support manager as well as regular visits from a company marketing representative and an Operations Manager.
